Web-Based Assessment Assignment

Image
Introduction: Hello class! Today we're going to dive into a project by creating a digital lesson using Padlet to visually explain fractions. This is a great way to demonstrate your understanding of fractions. Demonstration: We’ll start by typing padlet.com in your search browser. You can sign up for free and are allowed 3 padlets. If you need more than 3, you will have to purchase a different plan. I use the free version and delete old Padlets when I don’t need them anymore so I can stay at 3. Once you are in Padlet, you are going to click on “Gallery” at the top left. Scroll down until you get to “Lesson”. Click on “Lesson” and you can click on “See example”. This will give you an idea of how to structure your lesson. Click back on the original Padlet tab and click “Create” to create your lesson. Once you click “Create”, you will be taken to a screen that has some preloaded tabs. There are also instructions to the right to assist you with your lesson. Click on the “Settings” b...

Technology Lesson Demonstration Assignment

Image
For the technology lesson demonstration assignment, I chose to use Nearpod to help teach a math lesson for my fourth-grade special education class. The lesson was “Subtraction with Regrouping: Two-Digit Numbers”. This technology was extremely helpful in reinforcing the skills needed for this particular math lesson. I liked how the lesson was premade and I could skip any slides that I didn’t feel were necessary for the lesson. The link was easy for my students to click and get into the lesson. While I was teaching the lesson, my students were able to work in real time and I was able to gauge their understanding. If I needed to differentiate this lesson, I could have my students tell me their answer verbally or write it on a piece of paper with a pencil and show it to me in the camera.

Video Discussion - Gaming

Transcript: Gaming in the classroom can both enhance and hinder learning. One positive effect of gaming in the classroom is simulations. They have been widely used in classrooms and are thought to accomplish learning objectives by “providing realistic, but controlled, environments in which students are guided only by implicit rules” (Druckman & Ebner, 2007). Through simulation, students are taught key concepts and technical skills. One way that gaming can be negative in the classrooms is it does “not provide opportunities to engage players in deliberative decision making on contemporary issues or to apply concepts from the game world to their role as citizens in training” (Stoddard et al., 2016). One way that gaming could be productive in the classroom is by using it as a way that “students can engage in analysis and critical thinking about gaming as text and literacy, such as writing about actions taken during video game play“ (Beavis, 2014). Gaming can become inappropriate in th...
